At Harpers Barns we have created a very small, private and discrete holiday destination.
Best suited to couples or small families who want a quiet holiday in the countryside.
With the mod-cons you need, but without the crowds.
If you want a busy holiday venue with a hot tub, bar, entertainment on-site, swimming pool, widescreen TV lounge etc. then we are definitely NOT for you!
But – if you want to be able to totally relax and unwind, knowing that you may not see anybody else on-site for days (we're here if you need us, though!) then we think we are exactly what you are looking for.
There is no TV in the shepherds hut, but there is always a selection of books and games provided.
And there are plenty of USB charging points in the hut, so if you are desperate to watch TV during your stay that's the way to access it. We do not guarantee Wi-Fi though, so if you can't live without your "digital fix", then ....
During your stay, you will have sole use of our half-acre Glamping Field. That field has direct views right up to Helman Tor, a neolithic granite outcrop. If you fancy a lovely 30-minute walk it's literally just down the lane at the edge of our property and from the top you have 360-degree views across the moors. Stunning.
The whole glamping site is surrounded by views of open countryside. Next to our Glamping Field is our other 3.5-acre field that you can also use during your stay. And a smaller 1-acre field at the entrance too.
You don't have to suffer seperate outside shower rooms or compost toilets as you do in many glamping sites.
Our shepherds hut has its own modern shower and a proper flushing WC.
The Shepherds Hut only sleeps 2 but you might like to bring your children and give them the independence and freedom of camping on their own, whilst still being close enough to you for all the obvious reasons. That is easily arranged – you can book a camping pitch with your own booking very close to your own accommodation.
Each accompanying tent pitch is just £20 per night and is strictly for under-16's only and limited to a maximum of 2 children.
When you first visit Harpers Barns you would never realise that we are just an eight minute drive away from the A30, the main road into Cornwall. Surrounded by our own fields and rolling Cornish landscape, our home is truly in an idyllic spot! It has that “tucked out in the wilds” feeling, and yet is very close to good amenities.
Bodmin and St Austell are each both only 8 miles away.
Truro is a 30-minute drive down the A30.
There is a popular Riding Stables & Equestrian Centre, Barguse Stables a few hundred yards away.
Eden Project is a 20-minute drive, the Lost Gardens of Heligan are nearby.
There is even a Gin Distillery which runs gin-making courses 10-minutes away from us by car!
Our location makes us an ideally-located touring base for all of Cornwall.
The nearest beaches are only a twenty-minute drive away.
And we are situated right next to the Luxulyan Valley – one of Cornwall’s hidden treasures that you may not even have heard of!

Shepherds Hut 1
Totally solar and battery powered and with gas cooking facilities.
Luxury double bed, kitchen with fridge, separate eating area, shower, washbasin and WC. BBQ and fire pit areas alongside.
All bedding, towels and cooking utensils supplied.
Shepherds Hut 2
This will be built to the same high specification as our first one. With a few extra surprising features ....
We hope to have it ready for Autumn 2024.

We have 2 barns, Skyber and Rowan which we are converting into self-catering accommodation.
Skyber is a single-storey one-bedroom barn, which sleeps 2.
Rowan is our two-storey two-bedroom barn, which sleeps 4.

OUR FITNESS FACILITYTHE DOJO
We think we may be the only small self-catering venue in the UK
that has a fully-equiped martial arts training hall - a "Dojo".
If you are feeling energetic, we have our own custom-made exercise room called The Dojo which is available for a small charge to all our guests during their stay.
With a fully-sprung floor and lots of exercise equipment, including a variety of punchbags and a Warrior Wall, it can be used for Yoga, Pilates, any general exercises or for martial arts, for which it was originally designed.
You can book it for your own use for £10 per hour, £20 per half-day or "unlimited" use for a whole week for just £50. Booking can be made with your original reservation or any time during your stay.
Training Courses & Seminars
Dave is a 3rd Dan Instructor in Goshin Jujutsu and Modern Self Defense and he runs Seminars from the Dojo.
He is also available to any guest who wishes to have a personal 1 – to – 1 lesson while staying with us.
